Artist Manu Parekh |
|
| Manu Parekh was born in Ahmedabad in 1939 and studied at the JJ School of Art, Bombay. After graduation he was a stage actor and designer of stage sets. In 1967, he began exhibiting his art and has since participated in many solo and group shows, including at the Hirschorn Museum in Washington. As an art designer and consultant for Indian handicrafts, he has travelled around Europe and led an exhibition of Indian handicrafts to Mongolia. Informed by the whimsy and organic shapes of painters like Joan Miro and under the admitted influence of Picasso and Indian masters like Ram Kinkar Baij and Rabindranath Tagore, Parekh’s work has earned him a number of awards including the President of India’s Silver Plaque, the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society Award, the Birla Academy Award and the Lalit Kala Akademi National Award. A recipient of the Padmashri, he lives in Delhi. |
