Paritosh Sen
Born in 1918 in Dacca in present day Bangladesh, Sen was a founder member of the Calcutta Group in 1942. He continued his training at the Academie Andre L'hote, the Academie la Grande Chaumiere, Ecole des Beaux-Arts and Ecole des Louvre, Paris. Upon his return to India he taught first in Bihar and then at Jadavpur University. In 1969, he was the recipient of the French Fellowship for Designing and Typeface and in 1970 he was awarded a Rockefeller Fellowship. He has exhibited widely both in India and abroad including the Calcutta Group exhibition (1944), London (1962), Sao Paolo Biennale, Brazil (1965), I, II, III Triennale, New Delhi (1968, 1971, 1975), Sweden (1984), II Havana Biennale (1986), with solo shows in Lalit Kala Academi, New Delhi, NGMA, Mumbai, Birla Academy and Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata, Art World, Chennai. Sen lives and works in Kolkata.
